RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a discussion called for protection and promotion of the rights of migrants saying that there should be a general agreement on shared responsibility to address migration situations all around the world, reports BSS. They viewed that migrants' rights have to be secured, in all situations, irrespective of their status, and for harmony across our diverse societies. They were addressing the ‘Divisional Migrant Rights Network Conference and Consultation on Global Forum on Migration and Development,’ held in a city restaurant on Thursday.
WARBE Development Foundation (WDF) and Bangladesh Ovibashi Adhikar Forum (BOAF) jointly organised the conference in association with 'Promoting Knowledge for Accountable Systems, British Council, UKAID and Bangladesh Civil Society Coordination Committee. Additional Secretary to Expatriate Welfare and Oversees Employment Ministry Zabed Ahmed and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Kazi Ashraf Uddin addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Hannan in the chair. BOAF Chairman Nazmul Ahsan and WDF Representative Saiful Haque also spoke. Zabed Ahmed said mutual trust and respect, shared responsibility and inclusiveness are critical to address migration comprehensively.
