Forge an opposition front, Zafrullah urges Khaleda

Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury yesterday suggested BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to form a ‘combined opposition front’ together with major and small political parties to ‘restore’ democracy and people’s voting rights’, UNB reports.
“I call upon her (BNP chief) to shun obstinacy and launch a combined opposition front with big and small parties, giving Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury a special position in it. You can also take to the streets with 5/6-point charter as the Jukta Front did it with 21-point charter during the 1954,” he said.
Zafrullah further said, “You can first include education, healthcare and employment for all in your charter. Then you can go out to the field with the demands for ensuing democratic rights, right to franchise, and will see no undemocratic regime will be there in office and no one can hang onto power with muscle power.”
He put forward the suggestion while speaking at a roundtable discussion at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Adarsha Nagorik Andolan.
The Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder also advised Khaleda to hold meetings with ward and thana-level leaders of her party every week to invigorate them.
