A schoolboy was stabbed to death by his fellow students on Kewatkhali Railway School premises in the district town yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rasheduzzaman Leon, 15, a class IX student of the school and son of Akhteruzzaman, a resident of Balashpur area of the town.
Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, quoting school teachers and students said five to six classmates of Leon allegedly attacked him at the school gate at around 9.30am. They stabbed Leon indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. Hearing scream of Leon, teachers, students and local people rushed to the spot and sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries, said Mohammad Noor-e-Alam, additional police superintendent of Mymensingh.The attackers managed to flee the scene, he said.
The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately said OC Kamrul Islam. The attackers will soon be arrested, he said.
Police recovered the body and sent it to MMCH morgue for autopsy.  Protesting the killing school students brought out a procession on school premises demanding immediate arrest of the killers.
Police arrested Sakibul Hasan, 15, from Jhilki village in Trishal upazila yesterday afternoon in connection with the incident.
