According to the Directorate of Primary Education, 563 teaching posts remain vacant in 766 primary schools in the district.
Obaidul Kader Sarkar, assistant teacher of Charnagardi Government Primary School, said they face different crisis while conducting educational and official activities for the want of adequate teachers.
He has to conduct classes as well as maintain all the official works and communications which becomes a great pressure for him. As a result, sometimes he has to miss some classes or sometimes fails to concentrate on all classes. He said due to many vacant assistant teachers’ posts in the pre-primary section of the school other teachers have to conduct double classes. Such situation is making the teachers, students, guardians as well
as the school management committee tensed.
Sohorab Hossain Bhuiyan, upazila education officer of Palash upazila, said as a good number of assistant teachers of different primary schools is not getting promotion for long, the vacant posts are not being filled.
Nargis Sajeda Sultana, primary education officer the district, said there has been no recruitment for the posts of head teacher and assistant teacher since 2011.
“The problem is also creating impediment in educational activities as the head teacher is the main guardian of a school,” he said.
