Dhaka ties up with Tehran for JV fertiliser factory

Bangladesh will construct a urea fertiliser factory in a joint venture with Iran. Both Bangladesh and Iran will invest jointly to construct the factory near Iran’s Chabahar seaport. Besides, Iran has also evinced interest in investing in a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Chittagong.
This was disclosed at a meeting between industries minister Amir Hossain Amu and Iranian ambassador to Bangladesh, Abbas Vaezi Dehnavi, held at the office of the industries ministry yesterday. Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) chairman Mohammad Iqbal, director general of the foreign ministry, Masudur Rahman, and high-ranking Iranian officials attended the meeting.
The industries minister also expressed interest to import urea fertiliser under a government-to-government (G-to-G) process from Iran and the ambassador agreed to Bangladesh’s proposal. The minister directed the authorities to initiate the process in this respect within a month.  Amir Hossain Amu suggested
