Dominant Dhaka extend Ctg agony

Dhaka Dynamites bowlers ruined the Chittagong Vikings’ homecoming yesterday, sending the home batsmen to death spiral in an extraordinary bowling display that saw the visitors defending a meager 148-run total to retain their top spot in the BPL-4. Dhaka kicked off the first match of the BPL-4 Chittagong phase with a bang and sealed a tremendous 19-run victory over the home team at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Chittagong Vikings seemed to have lost its energy, as they lost four consecutive matches after winning the first match. The defeats have left them in an awkward position and the threat is real for them now of having an early exit. The crowd was electric with the Chittagong locals turning up in abundance. The vibe was positive with the home team restricting the Dhaka Dynamites to 148 for nine despite the fact that the visitors picked up almost nine runs per over until the 10th over. In reply, Chittagong failed to overcome it and finished their innings on 129 for eight to concede a defeat.
They began in positive mindset that was dented with the dismissal of Jahurul Islam Omee who was trapped run out after having a misunderstanding with Tamim Iqbal.
Anamul Haque Bijoy and Tamim Iqbal kept the side steady even though the flow of the runs was slow. Bijoy came out from his shell after the first powerplay by smashing a straight six off Nasir Hossain. But he ended up holing out the next delivery by repeating the same shot though Nasir delivered it short after realising the intention of the batsman.  Tamim was uncharacteristically slow as the bowling of Dhaka was too good to give any breathing space. Dhaka’s English recruit Matt Coles extended the agony by bowling in nagging line and length.
However, it was Mohammad Shahid, the national team pacer, who caused the most damage. Shahid’s carnage started after Dwayne Bravo got the prized scalp of Tamim by foxing him with his trademark slower delivery. Tamim, after showing much patience, tried to go for a glory shot but misread the delivery. Tamim scored 26 off 35 with two fours. Shahid then sliced the middle order in a measly bowling effort that saw him taking out Mohammad Nabi (15), Grant Eliott (8) and Nazmul Hossain Milon (13), the trio who could turn the match after the dismissal of Tamim. His spell decisively tilted the match towards Dhaka and gave them fourth victory in their fifth match. He eventually returned figures of three for 23 and was rightly adjudged man of the match.
Earlier, Mehedi Maruf kept on blitzing as Dhaka got yet another bustling start after being sent to bat first. He outsmarted the legendary batsman Kumar Sangakkara and got out after scoring 33 off 20, hitting six fours and one six. By the time he was dismissed, Dhaka was 41 in just four overs.
Nasir Hossain worked on the start Maruf gave the side but Vikings clawed back thanks to their English pacer Tymal Mills who removed Nasir for 20 and Sangakkara for 17 in the space of just three deliveries, bowling with searing pace. As usually Mosaddek Hossain propped up his game and held together the innings as Vikings started making inroads at regular interval. He was dismissed in the penultimate over, hitting 35 off 26 with two fours and as many sixes. Mohammad Nabi and Mills in a joint venture ripped through Dhaka batting line as well as stemmed the run flow to give the side a platform of ending the losing curse. The Chittagong duo claimed three wickets apiece but their batsmen showed an insipid performance yet again to sink the team.
