Teenage boy found dead
Satkhira: Police recovered the body of a teenage boy from a water body at Pachrokhi village in Sadar upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
Informed by local people, police recovered the body of Tariqul Islam, 18, son of Amzad Hossain of Reiu village, from Koyar Beel around 8:15 am, said Sub-inspector Asad of Sadar Police Station. The reason behind the death could not be known immediately.
 

Narail ijtema begins

A three-day long ijtema, an Islamic congregation, began in Narail town yesterday. District Tabligh Jamaat arranged the ijtema.
Ameer of District Tabligh Jamaat Akikur Rahman said one lakh devotees from home and abroad gathered at Housing Project Field in Narail town. Police Super of Narail Sardar Rakibul Islam said security has been beefed up for the devotees. One thousand police have been deployed here, he said. The devotees sought forgiveness and blessings from Allah for Muslims around the world and the entire mankind.


‘Militants misguide Muslims’
MADARIPUR: Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said yesterday militants misguide Muslims and innocent people in the country, reports BSS.
The minister said this while he was inaugurating a filling station at Chilar Char in the district.
He said Islam is the religion of peace that is known to all across the world.
“Militants indulged in killing innocent people. They want to destroy Islam in fact” he added. He also urged all to be united for resisting militancy and terrorism.
Sadar Upazila Chairman Pavelur Rahman Shafiq and Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Polic Station Ziaul Morshed were present, among others, in the function.
Fugitive held with Yaba tablets
NARAIL: A convicted fugitive was arrested with Yaba tablets at Ramsidi village in Sadar upazila on Wednesday, reports BSS.
The arrestee was identified as Liton Kazi, 35, son of Keramot Ali of the village.
Earlier, Liton Kazi was jailed for five years in a drug peddling case.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of detectives led by Assistant Sub- inspector Hasan Ali conducted a drive at the house of Liton and arrested him with 305 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets.
He was sent to the jail.
Smuggled Indian goods seized

Members of 26-Battalion of Jessore BGB seized huge quantity of smuggled Indian contraband goods worth about Tk 2 crore from Natunhat area in Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
Lt Col Zahangir Hossain, Commanding Officer of 26-Battalion JhumJhumpur headquarters, said based on secrete information a contingent of BGB members conducted a raid in Natunhat area on Jessore-Benapole highway at about 6pm and seized a covered van loaded with Indian contraband goods. Later, the law enforcers brought the vehicle to Jhumjhumpur.
ACC holds public hearing
NARSINGDI: To solve different public problems and ensure government facilities to the people, the district Anti Corruption Committee held a public hearing at Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday with the cooperation of the district and Sadar upazila administrations.
Commissioner of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed inaugurated the hearing as chief guest.
Director of ACC Nasim Anwar and Jasim uddin Haider, additional deputy commissioner (Revenue), Narsingdi, were moderators of the public hearing.
A good number of people took part in the hearing with their various complaints against different government offices, including upazila land office, Titas Gas office, Narsingdi Passport office, BRTA office, sub-registrar, Polli Biduyt Samity, district and upazila government hospitals, office of the
upazila project implementation officer, upazila primary and secondary education office
and settlement office and deputy commissioner office.
Dr Nasiruddin, in his concluding speech, said the ACC is completely an independent organisation and it has right to give punishment to any guilty and defaulter.
