BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Awami League (AL) does not practice democracy as they have no trust on it. He came up with the observation at a meeting with party activists at his residence in Thakurgaon yesterday afternoon. Blaming the AL for recent attacks and vandalism, Fakhrul said, they (AL) are blaming others of their own deed. He said local BNP leaders were arrested in connection with the attacks on the Hindu community in Nasirnagar of Brahmanbaria to divert people’s attention to another direction.
“The government is arresting local BNP leaders after filing false cases against them to divert the Hindu community’s resentment brewed following repeated attacks on them,” he said in a statement.
Fakhrul claimed that the houses and temples of the Hindu community were vandalised and looted in Nasirnagar over internal conflict of the ruling party.
“It’s been proved beyond doubt that leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies were involved in the attacks,” he said.
“The ruling party men are busy occupying land and property of the minority people,” he alleged.
Criticising the government Fakhrul said two Santal men, who were critically injured in attacks launched by police and Awami League men on the Santal Palli, were sent to jail without medical treatment.
“Such incident is tantamount to blatant inhumanity,” he said.
