Sunamganj: People of 16 remote haor villages in Sulla upazila of the district are going to get solar power to light their houses under a government project, reports UNB.
The project, titled ‘Haor Solar Power Project’, will supply energy to around 400 families and also facilitate irrigation in five villages in the area.
Awlad Hossain, resident engineer of the Power Division’s Dirai-Sulla office, said the solar plant, set up on a four acre plot at a central location of remote Aguai-Swashkhai Bazar of Habibipur union of Sulla upazila, is expected to be inaugurated by November 25 this year. “Already 150 connections have been completed. Around 400 families will get power connection from the project in remote 16 areas including Aguai, Swashkhai Bazar, Bilpur and Sorospur,” he said.
A total 2,322 solar panels and 540 batteries have been used in the plant. Besides supplying the electricity for household uses, the plant will also facilitate irrigation in five villages.
The project is being implemented by private firm Rahimafrooz with the finance of Tk 32 crore from the government’s Climate Change Trust Fund.
