‘Under Construction’, ‘My Bicycle’ at Casa Asia Film Festival

Rubaiyat Hossain’s critically-acclaimed feature film ‘Under Construction’ will be screened today at the Casa Asia film festival in Barcelona, Spain, while young filmmaker Aung Rakhine’s debut film ‘My Bicycle’ (Maw Theng Gari) was screened yesterday. Both films are presented in the Discoveries section of the festival that was opened on November 5 and will continue till November 13.
The film ‘Under Construction’ is about a woman struggling to find herself in the sprawl of urban Bangladesh. The story of the film ‘Under Construction’ shows that in order to find herself, actress Roya reconstructs a famous and politically minded play for modern times, reclaiming her identity and sexuality in the process. Besides, the film ‘My Bicycle’ reflects on the real lifestyle, culture and socioeconomic condition of the indigenous people
On the other hand, ‘Under Construction’ will be screened at the Five Flavours Film Festival to be held from November 16 to 23 in Warsaw, Poland. ‘Under Construction’ is scheduled for two screenings on November 18 and 19. The lead actress of the film Shahana Goswami would represent the film as a special guest and will be participating in the Question and Answer session.
The film will be presented in the competition section New Asian Cinema which is dedicated to new films focused on cultural and social issues, among others. The winning titles are selected by People’s Jury, as well as independent NETPAC jury.
“We consider ‘‘Under Construction’ a brilliant example of the cinema with not only narrative and visual values, but also aware of and sensitive to social issues,’ as mentioned by the festival director Jakub Krolikowski.”
Renowned to premiere latest and most appealing Asian cinemas in Poland, Five Flavours Film Festival is supported by the Warsaw City Council, The Ministry of Culture and the Polish Film Institute. l
