Prachyanat stages ‘Gupi Gayen Bagha Bayen’ today

Popular theatre troupe Prachyanat is staging a play with the screenplay from Satyajit Ray’s film ‘Gupi Gayen Bagha Bayen’ today at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the city. The ageless children’s film ‘Gupi Gayen Bagha Bayen’ by Satyajit Ray was released in 1964. Ray himself wrote the screenplay of the film based on a story by Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury. Keeping that screenplay almost intact, Prachyanat is going to bring the play on the stage.
The play will be directed by Shahriar Ferdous Sajib and he said, “Satyajit Ray wrote the screenplay for the film. Working with a film’s screenplay for the stage play is really a tough job and from that point of view, we have made a few changes in it. But not in the story, we have just brought changes to fulfil the requirement of the stage. There will be much uniqueness in the set design also.”
“The songs those were included in the film will be used in this play. In Bangladesh, no further endeavour was taken to bring ‘Gupi Gayen Bagha Bayen’ on the stage earlier”, he added.
The cast of the play includes the students of 28th batch of the Prachyanat School of Acting and Design. They will bring the play to the stage as their concluding production. Eminent theatre personality Golam Sarwar and noted filmmaker Morshedul Islam will be present on the occasion.
Apart from staging the play, Prachyanat has also organised an open poster exhibition outside the venue.
