922 Bangladeshis repatriated in 1 year

As many as 922 Bangladeshis stranded in different countries of the world have been repatriated so far since June 2014, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said here yesterday, reports BSS.
“The process for bringing the stranded Bangladeshis back home is continuing,” he said replying to a question raised by Jatiya Party lawmaker Md Shawkat Chowdhury (Nilphamari-4) in parliament. The foreign minister said a total of 359 Bangladeshis, who expected to be immigrants, were recently brought back home swiftly by way of various effective measures taken by the foreign ministry. Of them, he said, 61 persons were from Malaysia, 107 from Indonesia, 187 from Myanmar and four from Thailand.
The foreign minister informed the House that the present government has always been following the “zero tolerance” policy in containing heinous crimes like human trafficking.
“We are deeply concerned over increasing human trafficking incidents, inhuman condition of the trafficked persons, discovery of mass graves and torture camps in Thailand and Malaysia,” he said. Ali said necessary directives have already been given to bring back the Bangladeshi human trafficking victims speedily. “A task force is working between Bangladesh and India to check human trafficking.
