‘Smuggled goods, arms worth Tk 3,016cr seized’

The outgoing Director General (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Aziz Ahmed, who has recently been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General from major general, said they had recovered a huge quantity of smuggled goods and illegal firearms worth about Tk 3,016 crore in the last four years, reports BSS. At his last press briefing as the BGB chief at the forces headquarters here, the army officer, who was appointed as the next General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Bangladesh Army Training and Doctrinal Command, highlighted the measures taken for strengthening the BGB during his tenure.
Alongside developing BOPs, organisational infrastructure, surveillance system at borders, construction of border roads, and helping to earn revenue of Tk 300 crore, a total of 18,000 manpower including women have been appointed in the BGB during his tenure.
Replying to a query, the outgoing DG of BGB said that there are now three challenges for the BGB, one is wire fence at border and lack of necessary roads along the borders, the second one is poverty of the bordering people and the last one is shifting eyes from the Indian cows. Major General Abul Hossain will replace Aziz Ahmed  as the BGB chief as the government on Wednesday made the appointment.
