Sherpur: A court here on Monday sentenced five people and to different terms of imprisonment in a case filed under the Pornography Control Act 2012 for filming the sexual harassment of a newly married housewife in Nalitabari upazila and spreading it on the internet, reports UNB. The convicts were identified as the victim’s husband Nazrul Islam Bulbul, 27, Shafiqul Islam, 27, Abdus Salam, 25, Monu Miah, 26 and Golam Mostafa, 30.
Public prosecutor Golam Kibria Bulu said Shafikul was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment and fined TK 1.5 lakh, in default, he has to serve one and a half years’ more in prison. Abdus Salam and Monu Miah was sentenced to seven years’ jail and fined Tk 50 thousand, in default, they have to suffer six more months’ imprisonment. Golam Mostafa was sentenced to five years’ jail and fined TK one lakh, in default, he has to suffer one year more in jail. Nazrul Islam was sentenced to seven years’ jail and fined Tk 50,000, in default, he has suffer additional six months imprisonment.
Earlier on November 3, 2015, a tribunal sentenced each of them to seven years’ jail under the Woman and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000.
According to prosecution, the convicts sexually harassed the newly married woman when she along with her husband went to Madhutila Eco Park on July 17, 2014. They also filmed the video and spread the video through the internet.
Two cases were filed with Nalitabari Police Station on August 13, 2014 in this connection.
For the case filed under the Pornography Control Act 2012, police submitted the chargesheet against five people on December 24, 2014.
After examining all the records, Judge Harun-ur- Rashid of Sherpur Joint District Judge’s Court-1 handed down the verdict.
