Sun shines after 3 days of rain

After three days of rainfall, induced by a deep depression in the west-central Bay of Bengal, the weather cleared yesterday. A deep depression usually graduates into a cyclone. But this one weakened into a depression as it approached the shores. It further converted into a well-marked low, and led to extensive showers as it made landfall at the Sitakunda coast of Chittagong. The Met office has asked the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Paira to lower the cautionary signal. Rain also brought the mercury down sharply to near-winter levels. Dhaka recorded its maximum temperature at 24.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 19.3 degrees yesterday. As the low pressure moved away over the south-eastern hills of Rangamati yesterday, the day became a little warm even to the north-western town of Sayedpur, which recorded a maximum of 31.2 degrees Celsius. However, the weather remained cool further up north in the Himalayan foothills of Tentulia, which recorded the lowest temperature in the country, 17.1 degrees Celsius.
