A court on Sunday convicted a young man and sentenced him to 15 years’ rigorous imprisonment in arms case and drug smuggling case.The convict is Nazmul Hossain, son of Mahabbat Ali, a resident of Baropota village in Sharsha upazila.
The court also fined him Tk 10,000, in default, he has to suffer one more year rigorous imprisonment.According to prosecution, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested Nazmul from his house on November 10, 2006 along with 93 bottles of phensidyl, one revolver, seven rounds of bullets and a sharp weapon.Later, Aminul Islam, nayek subedar of BGB, filed two cases with Benapole Port Police Station in this connection.
After examining all the records, Judge Nitai Chandra Saha of Special Judge’s Court, sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment in the arms case, and to five years’ imprisonment in drug smuggling case.
