2 traffickers held; 2 girls rescued

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued two girls while they were being trafficked away and arrested two alleged Indian human traffickers from Link Road area of the district town in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday, reports UNB. The arrestees were Puja Haldar, 18, of Laxminagar in Delhi, and Laxmi Mohonta, 60, of Pundroli in Dakshin Dinajpur district of India.
Company commander of RAB-7 Major Ahmed Hossain Mohiuddin at press briefing said on a tip-off, a team of RAB-7 launched a drive in the area around 4pm and arrested the duo.
The elite force also rescued two Bangladeshi girls during the drive.
Quoting the two victims, Major Mohiuddin said they were being taken to Delhi with the assurance of jobs that pay Tk 40,000 per month. He also said in the primary interrogation, the alleged human traffickers confessed the two girls were being taken to Laxminagar of Delhi in a bid to sell them in a brothel there.
Two cases were filed against the two Indian nationals with Sadar police station under the Foreigners Act 1946 and the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act 2012.
