Soldier attacked for resisting girl’s stalkers

A gang of criminals attacked and injured an Army man on Sunday night for resisting them from stalking a schoolgirl at Borotia village in Ghior upazila.
Mrityunjoy Kumer Dash, 23, of Borotia village, a soldier posted at Rangamati Cantonment, was admitted to Shibalaya Upazila Health Complex immediately with severe injuries.
Police said the stalkers wounded the army man with knives at around 9:00 pm on Sunday as he tried to resist them from harassing a schoolgirl in the afternoon. Hearing scream, local people rushed to the spot and caught two  of the eve-teasers -- Sohan, 20, and Nishan, 22, of Fulhara village -- from the spot with a knife and handed them over to the police.
Police said Sohan, Nishan, Nitu, Babu, Sayeed and Johirul of Fulhara village have been harassing some schoolgirls at Borotia village since long. Villagers protested it several times but failed to resist them. Rather, the gang beat up Borotia villagers several times.
Officer-in-Charge of Ghior police station Shawkat Alam said victim’s father Subol Dash filed a case with the station against eight persons, including the two arrestees. “We have sent the arrestees to Manikganj court and are trying our best to nab other accused”, the OC said.
