Man loses 2 legs for resisting 
daughters’ stalker

A man loses his two legs for protesting stalking of his daughters at Nolvanga village under Kastovanga union parishad in Kaliganj upazila.Local people said Sharmin Akter, an honours student of Jessore Government Women College and her younger sister Shahanaj Akter, a class-VII student of a local school used to be stalked frequently on their way to campuses from home. The two siblings were stalked allegedly by Azam, son of a former union parishad member of the area and some others. When their father Shahanur Biswas informed the matter to some locals of the village, the influential family of Azam has came upon heavily on them. On last 16 October, Azam, Hasan, Motaleb, Billal, Zahid, Imdadul, Dukhu, Kamal and other associates beat up mercilessly Shahanur Biswas. His two legs have been broken by beating iron rod sticks. The attackers were not satisfied by merely breaking his legs, they penetrate different parts of his body barbarically and left him abandoned by thinking him dead. Later, Shahanur was rescued from the spot and was admitted to different hospitals.
When Shahanur was transferred to Orthopedic Hospital in Dhaka, doctors cut off both of his legs.The influential family members have drive out the victim family from the village as they could not file any case. Now the victim family is living in their relatives’ houses, said local people.To bear the costs of treatment, helpless Shahanur sold some of his land. The local MP visited him at the hospital and assisted him by Tk 5,000. Though the MP assured them of legal assistance but police couldn’t arrest anyone in connection with the incident even after 20 days of it. Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj Police Station Aminul Haque said, “I have information that both sides were involved in a clash. Police could not take any actions as no complaints were lodged regarding the matter. Police will take action after getting details on the matter.”
