Police arrested two people, including vice-chairman of Sadar upazila parishad Alamgir Hawladar, from the capital yesterday in connection with the assault of a policeman at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, UNB reports. The other arrestee is Jagoran Sheikh, president of managing committee of Palong Tulasar Govt Primary School. Police super of Shariatpur Saifullah Al Mamun said a team of police arrested them from Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of the capital in the afternoon. Later, they were brought to Shariatpur. He also said they were trying to arrest the other accused, Akhtar Hossain, a suspended leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League. On Tuesday, policeman, Nayek M Selim Matubbar, was assaulted allegedly by Akhtar, vice-president of Sadar upazila unit of BCL, at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.
Akhtar slapped Selim on his ear, creating a perforation in the eardrum of the policeman. Two cases were filed with Palong Police Station against three people, including Akhtar and Alamgir, in this connection. BCL on Wednesday expelled Akhtar Hossain for assaulting the policeman.
