12-year-old boy brutally tortured in Sirajganj

Sirajganj: A 12-year-old boy was admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital on Tuesday night after he was brutally tortured by some influential persons last week over a theft charge in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj, reports UNB. The incident took place on Thursday last, but it came to light on Tuesday night as the victim was admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital for better treatment.   Sources said about Tk 1.5 lakh was stolen from the house of one Abdul Mamin, an influential person of Kunduil Purbapara village in the upazila. Following the incident, Abdul Hannan, son of Makbul Sarkar of Kunduil Purbapara village called out Rafiqul Islam Apel, 12, son of Jayedul Islam of the village, from his house and took him to the house of  Abdul Mamin around 7 am on Thursday last.
Later, Abdul Hannan along with his associates beat up the boy with a stick. During the cruel act, Apel begged for mercy claiming to be innocent. Without paying any heed to his words, the attackers unleashed inhuman torture on the boy.
At one stage, the torturers gave him electric shocks to make him admit he stole the money.
The ordeal on the boy went on despite protests by some locals who witnessed the incident.
Failing to bear more than 10 hours of inhuman torture, Apel fell unconscious.
On information, police rescued the boy and rushed to Tarash Upazila Health Complex.
Later he was shifted to Sadar Hospital on Tuesday.
ATM Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tarash Police Station, said action will be taken in this regard after investigation.
