BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a tweeter message yesterday said that they were stunned and ashamed at the news of plundering of rice by AL people that were allocated for ultra poor at Tk 10/kg throughout the country. “We are ashamed and stunned at the news of plundering of rice allocated for ultra poor at a rate of Tk 10/kg by the well-off people of the Awami League across the country,” Khaleda tweeted. The former premier referred to the steps taken while her party was in power to control the price of rice at Tk 14 to Tk 15 per kg and introduction of open market sale (OMS) where poor people could buy rice at Tk 5/kg. She alleged that a provision has been introduced to provide rice at Tk 10/kg to cardholders, but the cards were handed over to the ruling party people, paving the way for plundering the rice and thus deprive the poor. Khaleda condemned the government for provide such means to, what she said, ‘snatch food away from the mouths of the poor people’.
