2 BCL leaders expelled over Gulistan clash

Two city unit leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the associate student body of the ruling Awami League,  were expelled from the party yesterday over a clash during an eviction drive of Dhaka South City Corporation in Gulistan area of the capital on Thursday. The expelled leaders are BCL Dhaka south city unit General Secretary Sabbir Hossain and Wari thana unit General Secretary Ashiqur Rahman, according to a BCL press release signed by its President Saifur Rahman Sohag and General Secretary Zakir Hossain. Hawkers and shop owners locked into a clash with police and city corporation staff after a team of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) officials, led by an executive magistrate, tried to carry out an eviction drive against illegal structures in Gulistan area. The two expelled Chhatra League leaders were seen brandishing firearms during the clash, and one of them was photographed shooting from his pistol.
