Customs AC Sushanta Paul stand released

Assistant commissioner (VAT and Excise) Sushanta Paul, who posted disparaging remarks about Dhaka University on the social media, was stand released yesterday, reports UNB. The action was taken hours after filing of a case against him on the charge. The National Board of Revenue issued a notification in this regard in the evening. As per the notification, Sushanta was transferred to Rangpur Customs, Excise and  VAT Commissionate from Khulna as assistant commissioner as a special measure under the zero-tolerance policy of NBR’s good governance and modern management structure and stand released with immediate effect. The commissioner concerned  has also been directed to take necessary steps for his mental treatment, the notification said. Earlier in the day, a case was filed against Customs officer Sushanta Paul on charge of posting disparaging remarks about Dhaka University on the social media. DU student Motakabbir Khan filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on Thursday under section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act. Customs officer (30th BCS batch) Sushanta Paul posted derogatory comments about Dhaka University on his Facebook timeline which created commotion among the university students. Amid the growing resentment among the students, Sushanta deleted his post and offered apology.
