Cyclone Kyant lost some of its steam and turned into a deep depression over the west-southwest Bay of Bengal yesterday (Thursday). It caused some showers in different parts of the country, including the city, that left many streets waterlogged, causing traffic congestion. The rain in the city in four hours till 10am was light to heavy and totalled 19mm. It returned in the late afternoon for nearly an hour, from 5-20pm till 6-10 pm, that caught commuters stranded in traffic jam by surprise. The Met office said the deep depression is likely to lose itself in the south-west Bay and may cause light rain early today (Friday) over the country, mainly in the south.
