Dance-drama ‘Mohua’ on stage today

Popular dance troupe Nrityanchal will stage their much-acclaimed folk dance-drama ‘Mohua’ today at 7pm at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the capital, as a part of the ongoing ‘Ganga-Jamuna Theatre and Cultural Festival 2016’. ‘Mohua’, which is a lyrical dance drama from Mymensingh Geetika, a collection of folk-ballads, has been compiled by late Shahidul Islam and planned and directed by Shahmim Ara Nipa. Based on a true story of Mymensingh region, Mohua Pala is featuring traditional marriage songs, ghetu gaan, pala gaan and others, weaves a tale of romantic tragedy between Mohua and Noder Chand.
Tapan Dey has directed the music for the dance-drama ‘Mohua’. In the dance-drama the songs of Ferdous Ara, Sadi Mohammad and Kiron Chandra Ray will be played by lead characters. Artistes of Nrityanchal consisting 30 dancers, including Shamim Ara Nipa (Mahua), Shibli Mohammad (Noder Chand) and Belayet Hossain Khan (Homra Baidha) have been included in the production. On the other hand, the two other plays will be staged simultaneously today at the Halls of BSA at 7pm. Among these, Dhaka Padatik will bring their much-acclaimed production ‘Hefajat’ on stage at the Experimental Theatre Hall and Natya Teertha will stage their play ‘Dwip’ at the Studio Theatre Hall. The festival also features songs, recitation, dance and street plays by several cultural troupes, which are being held every day from 4pm to 6:30pm on the open premises of Shilpakala Academy.
