Awami League President Sheikh Hasina along with other newly-elected office-bearers of the party yesterday paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports UNB. Sheikh Hasina, also the Prime Minister, and other office-bearers, including General Secretary Obaidul Quader paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the city. After placing the wreath, the Prime Minister and other AL leaders stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of the great leader and architecture of the country. Later, Sheikh Hasina went to Bangabandhu Bhaban and placed another wreath at the portrait in front of the historic house. The AL president offered fateha and munajat sitting on the stairs where Bangabandhu was assassinated on the fateful night of August 15, 1975. Sheikh Hasina was unanimously elected president of Awami League for the eighth consecutive time, while Obaidul Quader elected as its new general secretary in the party's two-day 20th National Council on Oct 22-23.
