Today, as a part of the ongoing ‘Ganga-Jamuna Theatre and Cultural Festival 2016’, popular theatre troupe Nagarik Natyangan Ensemble will stage their much-acclaimed production ‘Tora Sob Joyodhoni Kor’ at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the capital. Noted author-playwright Syed Shamsul Haq wrote the play based on the Liberation War, while Ataur Rahman, who is known as ‘Mancha Sarathi’ in the theatre arena, directed the play ‘Tora Sob Joyodhoni Kor’. The play begins with the portrayal of a scene where the army personnel arrest a man named Kazi Nazrul Islam just after the military attack on March 25 midnight in 1971.The army considers believing that they arrested the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Coincidentally, they found Kazi Nazrul Islam’s famous poem ‘Pralay Ullas’ in the pocket of the detained. From this point, the story of the play moves forward. The play revolves around that ordinary city dweller, who was brutally tortured by the Pakistani military at a concentration camp because of the same name.
The cast of the play includes Chanchal Shaikat, Abdullah Al Mamun, Saidur Rahman, Shefali Parveen, Abdul Aziz and others.
On the other hand, the two other plays will be staged simultaneously at the Hall of BSA at 7pm today. Among these, Alternative Living Theater from India will bring their highly-praiseworthy production ‘Bishadkal’ on stage at the National Theatre Hall and Theatre Art Unit will stage their production ‘Samoyer Proyojone’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall.
The festival also features songs, recitation, dance and street plays by several cultural troupes, held every day from 4pm to 6:30pm on the open premises of BSA.
