Writ filed against formation of ad-hoc committees

A writ petition was filed with the High Court yesterday seeking cancellation of section 39 of Non-government School College Governing Body Regulation-2009 that allowed the authorities concerned to form an ad-hoc committee to hold elections for governing bodies and management committees of the private educational institutions. Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Eunus Ali Akond filed the writ petition with the related branch of the High Court yesterday morning. A total of six officials including the secretary of education, chairman of Dhaka Education Board and Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka have been made respondents to the petition. The petition sought HC rule asking the government why the section 39 of the Non-government School College Governing Body Regulation-2009 should not be declared illegal. It also sought HC directive upon the government to hold the election at private educations institutions within 30 days.
The petition said that the section 39 of the Non-government School College Governing Body Regulation-2009 is contradictory with section 11 of the Constitution.
