Justice Sultan Hossain Khan, a former chief election commissioner and also an ex-chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission, passed away at a hospital in the capital yesterday at the age of 91, reports a news agency. He left behind his wife, two sons, two daughters and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death. Also a retired judge of the High Court Division, Sultan Hossain Khan breathed his last at Square Hospital at 4:30am, his family members said.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held on the premises of Supreme Court mosque at 1:30pm tomorrow. He will be buried at his village home at Rajapur in Jhalakathi district. He served as chief election commissioner in 1990 and became the first chairman of the ACC after the Anti-Corruption Bureau was transformed into Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in 2004. He also served as the chairman of Bangladesh Press Council.
