Extortion over AL council to invite stern action: Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday warned that stern action will be taken if anyone resorts to extortion centring Awami League’s upcoming 20th national council, reports UNB. “The entire expenditure will be borne from the party’s fund following the directives of party president Sheikh Hasina. If anyone resorts to extortion on the occasion of the council, stern action will be taken against him/her,” he said. Obaidul Quader, also a presidium member of the ruling party, was addressing a press briefing after a meeting of the office subcommittee, formed for the council, at AL president’s Dhanmondi political office in the city.
About the party’s possible new leadership, he said the new leadership will be a blend of experience of old faces and energy of young ones in order to implement the Vision-2021 and Vision-2041. In reply to a query about the party’s plan to tackle traffic jam in the city during its national council billed for October 22-23, the minister said, “We have a roadmap centring the council so that we can keep the public sufferings to a tolerable level. We’ll engage our efforts to make sure that traffic jam remains within a tolerable level.”
Awami League joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, organising secretaries AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap were, among others, present in the briefing.
