A college student was killed and 20 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups of people at Nilokhiya village in Belabo upazila of Narsingdi yesterday. The warring people also set fire to about 50 houses.
Roni, 20, of Nilokhiya village and a second year HSC student of Hazi Asmat College at Bhairab, died after he was hit by spear during a battle between to two groups of people.
According to police and witnesses, villager Babul, his son Ebadullah along with 50 to 55 men equipped machetes and spears attacked the houses of Sulman and Mokter Hossain of the Nilokhiya village at 8.45am over a previous rivalry.
Sulman and Mokter Hossain along with their family members tried to resist them.  But Mokter’s son Roni, who was standing in front of his house, was hit by a spear thrown by the attackers. Local people rescued Roni and other injured people and sent them to Belabo upazila hospital, where attending doctor referred the boy to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). But Roni died on the way to DMCH.
