Tailors in Jhenidah are passing a busy time in taking order and supplying delivery  ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
They do not have time to relax as they need to keep their eyes on the needles to meet the delivery schedules.
Iman Ali, a 60-year-old salaried tailor, working at the Badsah Tailors in Jhenidah town said: “It is our business time.”My actual salary is Tk 6,000 per month. In addition, my owner will give me Tk 3,000 as Eid bonus. Six members of my family have to enjoy this Eid with this income.
Kamal Mia, 37, another dressmaker, said: “We usually get our payment on weekly basis. We spend a portion on food and send the rest to my family at home.”
“It takes me more than two hours on an average to complete a shirt, and if I work till late night from morning, I can complete five to six shirts a day,” he said. But, he said,  it all depends on the orders received by the tailoring house and the supply of electricity.
MD Rahim, the owner of Rahim Tailors in Jhenidah main, said they are giving importance to making of trendy dresses to draw attention of buyers. The owners are busy now taking orders with accurate measurements.
 At least 2,000 to 2,500 tailors are now working in upazilas of the district.
 Md. Monwar Hossen, owner of tailoring house, said dresses are stitched all the year-round at the factories, but the demand for the garments increases at the beginning of Ramzan. The sale of various dresses sees a rise during Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha, the two biggest festivals for Muslims.
He said: “My tailoring house has the specialty in making dresses for women.We also stitch clothes for men and children. We do not compromise with the quality.”
Md Ali, the owner of Ali Dress Mart, said he has to purchase raw materials for making dresses, like threads, needles and different parts of the sewing machine from Dhaka. The expenditure on this account also adds to the production cos.”  Making charges range between Tk 250 and Tk 450 for pant, depending on the reputation of the tailors. For stitching a shirt they are charging Tk 200 to Tk 300.
