Rehana, Putul to attend AL session as Dhaka South councillors

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her daughter Saima Wazed Putul and sister Sheikh Rehana will join the Awami League’s forthcoming council session as councillors of Dhaka South. “Rehana and Putul have already enlisted as party councillors for the council session, while our PM’s name was also included in the party councillors’ list,” AL office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap said yesterday at Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office.
The AL is going to hold its triennial central council session at Suhrawardi Udyan in the city on October 22-23. Confirming the news, Shahe Alam Murad, general secretary of the AL’s Dhaka South city unit, said, “We have already enlisted the trio as councillors of Dhaka South. We will submit our list of councillors to the party office within a day.”
Party insiders said 6,570 councillors will attend the AL council session, and they will appoint the next leadership of the party through the council.
Earlier, Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Rehana’s son Radwan Mujib Siddique (Bobby) were made councillors for the session. Joy’s name was enlisted as the councillor from Rangpur district, while Bobby’s name was enlisted from Dhaka North.
In a related development, AL presidium member Obaidul Quader said at a city programme that Joy will be the next leader of Bangladesh Awami League.
Meanwhile, party high-ups are also thinking of inducting some other members of Bangabandhu’s family in the AL executive body, the party’s highest policymaking body.
“They might be given party posts, but I don’t know the exact posts. It would completely depend on our party president Sheikh Hasina,” said Golap.
