The relatives of a teenage boy have allegedly killed him for having an affair with his cousin. The victim, Jahid Hossain (16), was a resident of Shajadpur and employed with a hardware shop at Badda in the city. The victim’s brother, Md Riaz Hossain, said, “Jahid had an affair with the daughter of our uncle Siddiqur Rahman. Enraged over this, my uncle along with his son Moslem and some others beat Jahid to death at their home at Demra in the city.” Riaz said Jahid had gone to the girl’s house a few days ago and proposed to marry her. But the girl’s family rejected the proposal and warned him not to speak to her anymore. “Moslem had even forced my brother to sign an undertaking that he would never communicate with the girl,” he added. Things took a turn for the worse on Monday. “Around 11.45 am on that day, Siddiqur informed us that Jahid was confined at their Demra residence. It was after much dilly dallying that they finally agreed to release him on Tuesday,” Riaz said.“My brother’s condition was very critical and there were several marks of injuries on his body,” he said. “We first took him to Kurmitola General Hospital, but the staff there informed us that the experienced doctors were on leave. We then took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but the doctors there declared him dead,” he added. Demra police station officer-in-charge Kawser Ahmed, however, said, “We are not aware of any such incident.” DCP (Wari Zone) Farid Uddin said, “Police will take action after investigating the matter.”
