District officers of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) yesterday conducted mobile courts in four districts—Moulvibazar, Sylhet, Rangpur and Comilla—and fined 10 organisations a total amount of Tk. 47,500 for producing and selling food items in unhygienic conditions.
The DNCRP monitoring teams found several shop-owners selling unhygienic food items, products packaged without any mention of the maximum retail price (MRP), food items with banned ingredients, and products past their expiry dates, disclosed a press release of the DNCRP yesterday.
The mobile court penalised two shop-owners in Borolikha upazila under Moulvibazar district with a fine of Tk. 6,000, two organisations under Kotwali police station in the Sylhet metropolitan area with Tk. 14,000, two shop-owners in Rangpur Sadar upazila with Tk. 10,000, and three enterprises in Monoharganj upazila under Comilla district with Tk. 11,500, the release said. The monitoring teams also distributed leaflets to generate awareness among the public while conducting the mobile courts. The relevant district administrations, police, sanitary inspectors and others assisted the monitoring teams while they conducted the mobile courts.
