Young generation must be protected from drug abuse

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a discussion here have put emphasis on establishing a society free from drug-addition, militancy, extremism and crime to save the young generation from deadly consequences of the menaces, reports BSS. To attain the cherished goal, the law enforcement agencies and the community people should have to work together, they said. They were addressing an anti-drug and anti-militancy meeting held in Katakhali Bazar area under Motiher Police Station in the city on Saturday afternoon. Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) and Commu­nity Policing Forum organised the meeting with the main focus of encouraging and motivating the people towards freeing the society from various crimes. Shafiqul Islam, commissioner of RMP, attended the function as the chief guest and said the community people and the parents in particular should take the responsibilities of protecting the young generation from being involved in crimes.
With Deputy Commissi­oner (East) Amir Zafar in the chair, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shirin Akter, Assistant Commissioner Ekramul Haque, Officer-in-Charge of Motiher Police Station Humayun Kabir, Katakhali Pourasava Mayor Abbas Ali and Community Policing leader Dr Abdul Mannan also spoke. Shafiqul Islam said the community people should extend cooperation towards police with specific information about the criminals. He said that police-citizens joint patrolling and drives against the social crimes are the main objectives of the community based policing and there is no alternative to activating it to free the society from the crimes.
