Theatre troupe Mohakal Natya Sampraday is bringing their much acclaimed play titled ‘Nilakhyan’ on stage today at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the city as a part of ongoing National Theatre Festival. Based on the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s short story ‘Shapure’, the play has been adapted by Anan Zaman. Director Yousuf Hasan Arko uses the traditional narrative theatre technique to present the story of a snake-charmer. The play, which is the 36th production of the troupe, narrates the story of a snake-charmer whose dilemma over the desires for physical love and spiritual attainment takes the centre stage.
The probable cast of the play includes Poly Biswas, Tonu Ghosh, Litu Mondal, Monami Islam Kanak, Jerin Tasneem Esha, Sonia Islam and Nirjhor Odhikary, among others.Director Yousuf Hasan Arko also directed music for the play and has designed the set. Choreography has been done by Zerin Tasneem Esha, Thandu Raihan has done the light design.
On the other hand, Nagorik Natya Sampradaya will stage their acclaimed production ‘Nam-Gotrohin’ at the National Theatre Hall of BSA. The play, scripted and directed by noted Indian theatre activist Usha Ganguly based on Urdu writer Sadat Hasan Manto's short stories, is divided into three parts that deal with the lives of three women. Sultana, Neeti and Sugondhi are all representatives of subcontinental women. Manto, through his writing, unmasked the loathsome character of the male-dominated sub-continental society. The play shows how greedy, overpowering, deceiving and amoral nature of men pushes women into the corner.
The performers of play include Aupee Karim, Sriya Sharbojoya Pantho Shahriar, Mostafiz Shaheen, Rajib Dey, Saima Karim and Nowmi Kamrun Bidhu, among others.
Udichi (Theatre Department) will stage the play ‘Dafon O Hotyar Shilpakala’ at the Dr Nilima Ibrahim auditorium of Mahila Samiti Mancha, Baily Road, Natok Smarani.
To note, BSA and Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) have jointly organised the ‘National Theatre Festival 2016’ with the slogan ‘A Mati Noy Jongibader, A Mati Manobotar’, where a total of 58 troupes from across the country is staging their plays at four venues of BSA and Mahila Samiti, Baily Road.
The festival will be running till October 11.
