A sudden burst of rains in the afternoon disrupted the city life yesterday, catching many unprepared and streets waterlogged, and affecting the commuters, students and shoppers. It provided a bonanza for the rickshaw peddlers and auto-rickshaw drivers to charge extra fares from the people returning home from business.
Many had to face most inconvenience looking for a rickshaw, having to surrender to the whims of rickshaw peddlers, who braved the rains which varied between places in the city, and was logged 21mm in six hours between 12pm till 6pm by the Met Office. The rains were attributed to a westerly that fuelled the monsoon active over the country.
The heavy burst of rains, however, slowed down in the evening that cooled the temperature, taking it down from 33 degrees Celsius to 26C by evening, suggesting that the night temperature would come down further.
The Met Office forecast for the next 24 hours beginning at 6pm yesterday said rains are likely to continue in the next two days. There would be no marked change in the next five days.
