BASIC BANK LOAN SCAM
UK Bangla Trading chairman gets conditional bail

BASIC BANK LOAN SCAM

The High Court (HC) yesterday granted a four-week bail to Ahmed Tajuddin, chairman of UK Bangla Trading Ltd, in a case filed over the BASIC Bank loan scam. The HC asked the UK Bangla chairman to surrender before a lower court after the bail period expires. It also asked him to pay Tk 2 crores to BASIC Bank on the day of his surrender before the trial court. The court also directed him to pay Tk 2 crores to BASIC Bank in every two months after his surrender.
In response to a bail petition filed by Tajuddin, an HC vacation bench of Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order.
According to the HC order, Tajuddin will continue to pay the money to the bank until the loan is paid.
Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan, counsel for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) told reporters that the lower court may consider granting Tajuddin bail on his surrender in line with the HC order. But, Tajuddin have to pay Tk 2 crores in every two months. If he fails to pay any installment, his bail would be cancelled, he noted.
The ACC filed the case against Tajuddin with Gulshan Police Station on September 21 last year on charges of taking a loan of Tk 45-crore from BASIC Bank through forgery and misappropriating the money.
A total of 56 cases were filed in Gulshan, Motijheel and Paltan police stations in connection with the BASIC Bank fund scam.
