RANGPUR: Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan has said the present government will construct all necessary infrastructures to turn Chilmari River Port (CRP) into a full- fledged river port within the next one year period, reports BSS. “The river dredging works will be completed by June next to keep the river route from CRP to Paira Sea Port operative,” he said at a huge public rally organised by Chilmari upazila Awami League (AL) at Thanahat A. U. Pilot High School ground in Chilmari upazila town of Kurigram on Friday as the chief guest.
Earlier, the Minister formally inaugurated the CRP by unveiling plaque of the river port on the Brahmaputra riverbank and planted a sapling there at Ramna Ghat point in the outskirts of Chilmari upazila town.
President of Chilmari upazila AL and Chilmari upazila Chairman valiant freedom fighter Shawkat Ali Sarker, Bir Bikram, presided over the rally.
The Shipping Minister said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always keeps her words. She committed to re-launching the CRP at a public rally here in Chilmari on September 7 last and the commitment became a reality today.”
The minister said that the country always advanced ahead and life standard of common people improved when AL came to power as the party worked for development and welfare of the country and its people.
“Those, who have been conducting militant attacks and killing innocent people in the name of Islam, the religion of peace, for going to the Heaven, would enter the Hell instead of going to the Heaven,” he said.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga, MP, AKM Mayedul Islam, MP (Kuirgram-3 constituency), BIWTA Chairman Commodore M Mozammel Haque, noted industrialist Golam Mostafa, General Secretary of Chilmari upazila AL Abdul Kuddus Sarker, President of Ulipur upazila AL Mrs Moti Sheuly and General Secretary of Roumari upazila AL Mizanur Rahman, addressed the rally, as special guests.
