If you have ever heard about One Punch Man (OPM), then you must also know about ONE, creator of OPM. Mob Psycho 100 anime is adapted from the web comic drawn by the same author.
Like OPM, this anime is also about an overpowered hero. But, unlike Saitama of OPM, he doesn’t have any physical prowess. Rather, he is a psychic. You will be wrong if you think that this is just another version of OPM.
When you watch the very first episode, you will know what’s unique about this anime. The art style. Mob Psycho was not redrawn by someone like Murata as it happened with OPM. The anime remained true to ONE’s drawings in the web comic. Even with this art, the animation makes it up for it. The animation is so good that you will start loving the art style once you are hooked to the story.
The story is about Shigeo Kageyama, aka Mob, an 8th grader, who has psychic powers. He could easily bend or lift spoons using his psychic abilities when he was just a child. Mob can usually control his powers, but not always.
During any emotionally stressed situation, his powers go berserk. Mob is afraid of hurting someone during such incidents. To learn about restraining his own abilities to a limit, he becomes a disciple of Arataka Reigen. In truth, his mentor has no psychic abilities and runs a fraud business of fake spirit and demon exorcisms. The story progresses with Mob and Reigen’s encounters with different spirits and other people who have abilities similar to Mob’s.
Studio Bones did a great job at presenting the story with its excellent animation and screenplay. This anime does not only have good fighting sequences, but also good character development. There are the sudden commentaries that introduce Reigen’s new moves, making it really funny. All in all, Mob Psycho has the right dose of humour, character and action. The anime is still running. You should go start watching it before you get any new spoilers!
