5 die in road crashes

Five people were killed in separate road accidents in Munshiganj and Magura yesterday, reports UNB.
In Mnshiganj: Three people, including a couple, were killed and five injured in a head-on collision between a bus and human hauler on Dhaka-Mawa highway at Shologhar in Shrinagar upazila yesterday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Sukumar Mandal, 55, of Deulbhog village in Shrinagar upazila, his wife Parul Mandal, and Farhad Hossain, 28, a resident of Ketoykhali village.
Witnesses said the Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Shwadhin Paribahan’ hit the human hauler while overtaking another bus around 1pm, leaving the couple dead on the spot and injured six other passengers of the human hauler. As the injured were being whisked off to a local hospital, Farhad succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Following the accident, agitated locals blocked Dhaka-Mawa highway for about an hour, creating a five-kilometer-long tailback on both sides of the highway, said Assistant Superintendent of Police of Shrinagar Circle Samsuzzaman Babu. On information, police rushed to the spot and dispersed the gathering from the highway.
In Magura, two people were killed as a truck rammed into their bicycle in front of Palli Bidyut Office in the district town yesterday morning.
The deceased were identified as Kuddus Biswas, 56, of Magura Sadar upazila and Ibrahim Mondal, 35, an employee of the Palli Bidyut Office and a resident of Jessore.
OC of Sadar police Azmal Huda said the accident took place at about 7 am when a speeding Khulna-bound truck hit the duo while they were going to Magura town riding a bicycle, leaving them critically injured. Local people took them to Magura Sadar Hospital where doctors declared them dead.
A case was filed in this connection.
