Local coaches termed the concluded BCB-High Performance (HP) programme successfully finished as this time four players from this line-up broke into the 20-member ODI pool for the forthcoming Afghanistan and England bilateral home series. The eight-week-long intensive training programme which was kickstarted on July 17 and formally ended this week on Tuesday.
Australian experienced coach Simon Helmot was appointed for the HP unit as the head coach. But he didn’t come due to the security grounds at that time. Later launched by the guideline of the local coaches, this specialised squad, splitting into two groups, played two three-day practice matches at the fag end of the short-term training camp.
The first match was held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in between August 28-30. The second and the one was played at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Chowdhury Stadium in Fatullah in between September 3-5.
This year a total of three players including pace all-rounders Shuvashish Roy and Alauddin Babu coupled with spin all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraj from HP have been made the cut in the 20-member ODI pool for the upcoming home series against Afghanistan and England.
Mosharraf Hossain Rubel was included from the specialised HP squad, which was conducted by Indian spin consultant Venkatapathy Raju.
“Some selected players, most of which play in the first division and premier division cricket league, get chance to take part in the short-term programme. A full package work on players’ weakness has been worked here. Along with that, skill-based work has also been done. Actually we tried to give them a clear idea about the national team so they do not face any hurdle to play in the national team if they could make the cut,” said Mizanur Rahman Babul.
“This year we finished the programme successfully. Three players of our regular HP programme and one from HP specialised programme have been entered into the 20-man short-list ahead of the forthcoming home series,” Babul told The Independent.
“We had a few raw players including Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury in the squad. He is a prospect but have to give him time to flourish. Along with that, we can tell Alauddin Babu, who played U-19 World for Bangladesh. Thereafter, he has been lagged behind in the middle of the career. But he has capability to take place in the national team,” he added.
With the participation of the players and coaching staffs a meeting was held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on the last day, where they tried to remind them so that they could implement the tips and techniques what they learnt from the comprehensive training programme in the imminent National Cricket League (NCL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) and Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
“We have reminded them what they learnt from the HP camp and gave them a guideline do individual practice during their leisure time so that they could materialise them in the incoming domestic competitions such as NCL, BPL, BCL, DPL properly. We told them to keep a constant contract with us. We will coach them in the gap of time round the year,” Mizanur Rahman said.
When asked him to tell about the next course of action with these players, Babul said, “I do not know about it. The board has information about it what plan they have for them in the next time.”
