‘Country to remain militancy-free’

PABNA: Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif yesterday said the soil of Bangladesh will remain free from militancy, reports BSS. “Bangladesh will remain as a glittering example in the world arena for tacking militancy,” he said speaking as the chief guest at a reception accorded to successful students of Sugar Crop Research High School at Bangladesh Sugar Crop Research Institute (BSRI) at Iswardi.
The minister said there is no heroism in militancy and suicidal activities. A national unity has already been forged in the country to build a militancy-free country, he added. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been able to project Bangladesh as a modern nation in the world, he said and urged the meritorious students to be united to build a beautiful country and a developed nation. He said the Prime Minster has foiled the desires of those who wanted to turn Bangladesh into a country like Pakistan, Afghanistan or Iraq.
Presided over by BSRI Director General Dr M Khalilur Rahman, the function was also addressed by Pabna District Council Administrator M Shahidul Huq Chunnu and BSRI Directors Dr ASM Aman Ullah, Dr Amzad Hossain and Dr Saidur Rahman, among others, said an official release. The minister distributed gold medals and crests among the successful students.
