Slaughter sacrificial animals in selected places, urges RCC

RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) authority has fervently urged the city dwellers to sacrifice their animals only in the selected places for proper waste disposal, reports BSS.
“We have fixed 254 places for slaughtering sacrificial animals during Eid-ul Azha in 30 Wards of the city,” said Nizam-ul-Azim, Mayor-in-Charge of RCC. He was addressing a view-sharing meeting of waste management committee in the city Bhaban yesterday as chief guest.
He said the city corporation is determined to safe removal of sacrificial animals waste within 24 hours in the city and it has adopted massive measures to this end. Eid vacation of all the officers and staffs of conservancy section has been cancelled.
With committee president Habibur Rahman in the chair, Chief Executive Officer Khandaker Mahbubur Rahman and Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Mamun also spoke.
The meeting urged the city dwellers to use only the selected places for the purposes in the greater interest of making the metropolis along with its air and water free from pollution and other contamination.
Mayor Azim said the citizens should come forward and work together and as a whole, take the responsibility of building the city habitable. Time has come to prevent the existing trend of slaughtering sacrificial animals here and there.
Planned and hygienic slaughtering of animals has become indispensable to protect the public health from becoming infected with various diseases including the zoonotic ones.
Collective efforts of all government and non-government organizations concerned has become a crucial issue to control the community level zoonotic disease particularly anthrax as its risks are increasing in the country.
“Compared to other countries in the region, the prevalence of zoonotic diseases is not very high, but definitely we (Bangladesh) are exposed to growing risks of such diseases,” he added.
