Bagerhat: Fourteen members of two infamous robber gangs—Santo Bahini and Alam Bahini who surrendered to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday—were sent to jail yesterday, reports UNB.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate sent the robbers to jail after police produced them before the court, said Officer-in-Ccharge of Sharankhola Police Station M Abdul Jalil. On Thursday evening, RAB members handed the bandits who surrendered in a bid to return to normal life to police while Deputy Assistant Director of RAB-8 of Barisal Amzad Hossain filed a case against them with Sharankhola Police Station under the Arms Act.
On Thursday, 10 members of ‘Santo Bahini’ and four others belonging to ‘Alam Bahini’ surrendered to the elite force in presence of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan at RAB headquarters in Barisal district. They also surrendered 20 firearms and 1008 bullets at the RAB headquarters in Rupatoli area of Barisal city.
The 10 gang members of Santo Bahini are Abdul Barek Talukder (ringleader), 48, Monir Hawlader, 55, Dulal Mollah Bhandhari, 40, Farid Hawlader, 26, Anisur Rahman Mollah, 35, Bashir Ahmed, 47, Farid Gazi, 38, Mostafa Sheikh, 46, Sayem Ali, Nurul Islam,44, Khorshed Sheikh, 52, hailing from different upazilas of Bagerhat district. Four members of ‘Alam Bahini’ are Alam Sarder (ringleader), 34, Halim Gazi, 26, Abu Bakar Siddik, 27, and Asaduzzaman, 18, hailing from Satkhira. A team of RAB conducted drives in Suppara and Punerkhal areas in the Sundarbans under Sharankhola upazila from 3 pm to 5 pm on Wednesday and arrested a number of robbers from their hideouts.
