Residents of the city experienced a huge gridlock even holiday yesterday especially at the main roads as a large number on home bound Eid passenger starting to arrive here in this morning. City life in the main roads remained standstill during the time. The jam started in front of the Jail Gate to Line Road, Girrja Moholla, Chalk Bazar, Fazlul Haque Avenue, Kathpotty, Sadar Road, Bagura Road, Kalibari Road from about 10 am everyday and continue hours long. Traffic police failed to control the situation almost every where.
Barisal Metropolitan Traffic Police authorities said that they have been facing problem to tackle Eid and Puja rush on the roads of divisional city due to manpower shortage. Abu Saleh Md. Raihan DC Traffic of BMP said that normally 3500 transport are plying the main road of the city each hour at day time But at now it was increased abnormally here and there, he added.
Facing the reality in present situation at least 5-8 hours traffic jams have been created daily from morning to noon and evening to night due to heavy rush of Eid shoppers and visit to Puja mandaps at the city’s main roads and its surrounding commercial areas.
BMP will deploy 20 more constables to tackle the situation from today, said Commissioner of BMP SM Ruhul Amin. A large number of range reserve force and kotwali police were also deployed on the road to maintain the traffic, he added. BMP also banned plying of manual and battery operated auto rickshaws in the main road of the city.
