RAJSHAHI: Highlighting the importance of hundred percent literacy speakers at a post-rally discussion unequivocally called for a concerted effort of all government and non-government development organisations concerned to attain the cherished goal for overall development of the nation, reports BSS. They viewed total literacy is the precondition to enrich the sector of skilled human resources besides freeing the nation from unemployment problem.
District Administration and Non Formal Education Bureau jointly organised the discussion at conference hall of Primary Teachers Institute on Thursday in observance of International Literacy Day- 2016.
Various government, non-government and voluntary organisations observed the day with a fresh vow to make the nation free from the curse of illiteracy.
Marking the day, the district administration organised a colourful rally, meeting, film show and essay competition for the students. A large number of people, including different government, non- government and development organisations, participated in the procession which was brought out from Moni Bazar crossinng and ended at the meeting venue after parading some of the main thoroughfares.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Hannan and Principal of Rajshahi College Prof Habibur Rahman addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin in the chair. The speakers said primary teachers and social workers can play vital roles in gearing up the literacy campaign throughout the country to achieve the millennium development goals. They stressed on creating more awareness among the people to make the literacy campaign a success.
