A Shariatpur court yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of 12 people, including district Awami League president and Shariatpur municipality mayor Abdur Rob Munshi, in a graft case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), reports UNB.
The other accused who face the arrest warrant are Anwar Kamal, headmaster of Angaria High School in sadar upazila and member secretary of the school managing committee, managing committee members Abdus Salam Hawladar, Majibar Rahman Hawladar, Ayub Ali Mallick, Abdul Kuddus Mollah, Begum Alfatunnesa, Sujan Saha, Sangita Saha and Ranjit Kumar Saha, and Jahangir Alam and Abdus Salam.
According to the case statement, Anwar Kamal invited tender for selling 3.71 decimals of land of the school on September 22 and 23, 2012.
Responding to the notice, three contracting firms showed their interest to buy the land offering nominal price. Of them, J Sardar Corporation bought the land at a cost of Tk 1.50 crore on December 30, 2012 although the actual price of the land is Tk 4.57 crore.
Although Jahangir Alam, owner of the contracting firm, provided two cheques of Tk 70 lakh and Tk 80 lakh to the school authorities, those were dishonoured in the local bank.
On August 6, 2014, deputy director of Faridpur regional ACC, Moloy Kumar Saha, filed a case with Palong Model Police Station against the school managing committee, including its president Abdur Rob Munshi, for embezzling the land money in collusion with each other.
